Napier's Bones: First discovered when one of their albums was re-boosted by Stefan Hepe of the prog band Gandalf's Fist; exploring their Bandcamp site revealed that Miss Von Trapp guested on one of their albums, Tregeagle's Choice, an epic prog storytelling historical concept album and also a good place to start exploring them. The Stone Tapes. Working with found sounds and with albums 'Avebury' and 'The Kingdom of Mercia', these are albums reminiscent of unsettling 1970s television series The Stone Tapes (surprise!) and the like. A sublime, menacing, storytelling narrative that creates shadows around itself.
Strangejuice. What can be said about Strangejuice that hasn't already been said? Some say he used to work the treace mines in Lancashire in England before striking it rich and moving to Australia. Others say he's part of a dark-cabaret circus, endlessly touring the globe, creating music to counter the dumbing down of popular music. Still others maintain he has inherited the soul that imbued Picasso with his talent, but through Strangejuice it arranges colour, light and shade through sound and texture, through a cornucopia of known and unexpected instrumentation and sound-producing effects. His debut album, 'Brown Songs' has 50 tracks. I would list his most recent release .. but he releases 2 or 3 albums a year. Start with the 'Patterns of Juvenile Delinquency' album, a mere 25 songs, and go from there. Donated 'The House near the sinkhole' and 'Houseflies in the Mist' to the 4th Raising Steam download.
